Long sunny days, strawberries and cream, and most importantly tennis; Wimbledon is one of the most important sporting and social events of the year. Whether you’re grabbing a punnet and watching the action on the common, or have been lucky enough to get tickets to see Mr. Murray in the flesh, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the championships with friends.
For those of you who have opted for the at home lunch or dinner party, I’ve been creating a table design which will be sure to impress your guests. All items have been purchased from high street stores, showing you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a Pinterest worthy tablescape.
THE DESIGN
Firstly, I hate purple. It can so easily look cheap and nasty, especially when on anything to do with homeware. Add butterflies and I’m honestly out.
But I didn’t want to go down the easy route of strawberries and cream, that’s way too simple and you don’t need me telling you how to do red and white. Purple and green are both very strong colours, which don’t necessarily go together without the addition of a yellow tone to complete their triad. Hence the gold. ***
Adding a charger plate will bring an element of luxury to any table. Here I’ve added a very dark purple charger to replicate the shape and colour of the Wimbledon logo, teamed with a lighter more vibrant linen napkin. To put a green plate on top of this would look too dark for a summer event, so I decided to go with a white plate with greenery detailing. This look is very on trend at the moment, and I’ve added in gold cutlery to take this one step further.
To bring in a touch of something different, I’ve added glassware with a gold rim to again add continuity and connection between the elements. Laying the flowers with precision is the finishing touch, keeping in some of the greenery to match the plates, adding in purples, and lightening the whole look with a stem of white.
So there you have it. A super easy, super cheap, super on trend tablescape for you to enjoy your post Wimbeldon dinner with friends.
