A Wedding Planner’s Wedding #3: The 40-something Hen

Wedding Planner: Sex in the City Hen

A Wedding Planner’s Wedding #3:  The 40-something hen!

In the third instalment of my blog series as an experienced wedding planner planning my own wedding, I’m asking myself what works when you’re a 40-something hen…?
I only managed to read the first two hits from Google’s helpful suggestions before I was compelled to make myself an Old Fashioned. Interesting choice of drink I thought as all the suggestions sounded more like SAGA holidays then hens!
As a wedding planner I was sure I could do better than that. Here were some of my thoughts for the flirty and forty hen party:

Sex in the City: New York

Friday to Sunday flights I found for as little at £350 return, direct! Airbnb will prevent you from hyperventilating at New York hotel costs. I found some stunning 8 bed apartments in the West Village for £220 per night (note not per person, per room)! You can stay near Time Sq but it’s just all very built up. West Village is far more cool.
For daytime activities of course nothing beats shopping, I love Henri Bendel on 5th Avenue and browsing all the little boutiques of West Village is a day’s activity in itself. I love my movies and would have to go on an On Location tour whilst there. And Carrie Bradshaw-style bar hopping in the evenings would be a must! A musical on Broadway is a given for one of the other nights and for a bit of culture I’d love to check out The Morgan library & museum, walking distance from Grand Central Station.

Wine Tasting: France

There are some fabulous chateaux in the Loire and Bordeaux offering wine tasting and weekend packages but I’d have to head to Champagne and get seriously involved in trying out the full range of bubbles on offer at the different estates. Pol Roger is my favourite so we could base ourselves near their estate and the beauty of the Champagne region is that it’s very near Paris so we could start or end our trip with a night there too.

Health Retreat: Marbella

Shopping and wine tasting might be a bit too energetic for this wedding planner in the run-up to her wedding so a visit to a health retreat would be next on my list. I know Iceland might seem a good idea here, but when you take into consideration it’s the world’s fourth most expensive country, it quickly puts a chill on that idea. The Six Senses Spa in Marbella looks perfect for my gaggle of hens, I can imagine us luxuriating there already…

Naughty and nice: Cannes

Perhaps a good combination of the excitement of New York, the bubbles of the Champagne region and the chill of a healthy weekend could be Cannes? Who said you can’t have both chill and some nights out? We could stay at Le Majestic (a favourite of celebrities during the film festival) and take a car out to Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc for lunch for some serious 5 star glitz and glamour. The Majestic has it’s own spa so we could return there for some pampering in-between our trips to restaurants, bars and shops. Cannes, here we come!
